Choose Color Against the Coats You Handle
Almost every trade gets the same advice: go dark, dark hides everything. Grooming inverts it. A dark shirt is the worst possible background for the thing that covers you all day, and most of what covers you is light fur. Black and Navy look beautiful in a mockup and turn into a lint-roller ad thirty seconds after a Samoyed.
Read your color off your appointment book instead:
- Mostly dark coats (black labs, shepherds, black poodles): go lighter. White or Sport Gray.
- Mostly white and cream fluff (bichons, westies, cream doodles): a darker shirt genuinely stays cleaner-looking longer. Navy, Forest, Black.
- A mixed book, which is most shops: Sport Gray is the honest workhorse. Light and dark fur both half-disappear into the heather.
Water decides the tiebreaker. A solid saturated color shows a soaked front dark and obvious for twenty minutes, and a shampoo splash dries with a visible ring. Heather hides both. The Groomer Is the Brand
In a one-chair shop the shirt is the signage. It also spends the day partly hidden: arms up, a dog against your chest, table edge across your waist. Keep the mark high and centered, one line of shop name, nothing that falls apart when half of it is behind a spaniel. Front print only during our beta, which is where it belongs anyway. These are printed garments, not embroidered, so a clean simple mark holds up best.
